This week – 31 December 1232

Earl Patrick I of Dunbar died and was buried at Eccles Priory. He was the first to use the title ‘earl of Dunbar’, rather than ‘of Lothian’. With his wife, Ada, daughter of King William I, he had four sons and at least two daughters. His eldest son, Patrick, succeeded him after his death.
