The Treaty of Newcastle was agreed between Alexander II and Henry III, by which Alexander promised to retrain from hostilities against England ‘unless in defence of Scottish interests’. Also included in the treaty was the betrothal of Alexander’s young son, Alexander, to Henry’s eldest daughter, Margaret.
